Assessments & Recommendations

The inTEAM approach to assessments is based on the principles of our founders in their book School Foodservice Management for the 21st Century. Our comprehensive program assessment evaluates all functional areas of foodservice operations. We start with Menu Planning with your current approach and then assess its derivative impact on three other critical areas to develop recommendations:  Financial Management & Cost Controls, Department Organization & Staffing, and Marketing & Communications.

Nourish to Flourish Pilot Schools Market Research

inTEAM’s Data Sharing & Analytics Initiative creates the framework for schools and industry to develop and share standardized data and analytics techniques to evaluate the impacts of operational changes at pilot sites. inTEAM can help measure baseline or peer data before, during, and following the implementations. The underlying purpose is to learn together, side by side with program stakeholders and (when successful) share best practices to the benefit of all.

Professional Development

inTEAM’s foundation in creating standardized foodservice systems and related training programs to help schools develop successful school meal programs continues today with delivery options including live classroom, web-based, and train-the trainer methods.  inTEAM’s professional team of internal and external consultants include Registered Dietitians who have extensive experience developing and providing custom and standard training content.

In addition, our eLearning course catalog meets 100% of professional standards requirements for Directors, Managers, and Program Staff, and training materials are updated as regulatory requirements change and as system updates and enhancements are completed.  New eLearning content that is generic in nature is provided to all customers in accordance with regulations regarding the utilization of federal funds.

Organization Development & Program Support

inTEAM’s takes a “menu centric” approach to operational analysis and our philosophy that the menu impacts all other functional areas within the foodservice operation.  inTEAM Consultants can assess factors including procurement, facilities/equipment, menu planning, production and service processes ensure consistent outputs including food product quality, level of customer service and labor productivity.  Eliminating common barriers, establishing Key Performance Indicators and ensuring the utilization of appropriate technology will result in improved efficiencies and operating goals.

inTEAM consultants can also help manage the development and maintenance of your menu plans and recipes and offer suggestions that may improve engagement, participation and overall efficiencies.  Food cost as a percentage of total earned revenue is a key performance indicator critical to driving expenses.  In addition to the baseline data (and number of menus/cycles) required, data related to production techniques, time and efficiency practices and other data points at the school level may be evaluated for overall effectiveness and the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) associated with menus.

Technology Planning, Implementation & Measurement

Most programs continue to operate using multiple software systems but there may be considerable efficiencies to be gained by examining specific work flows to determine where greater interoperability will result in reducing redundant (sometimes inaccurate) work.  inTEAM will review the various tools being utilized and their effectiveness in your “Current State” and make recommendations for interoperable solutions to improve ongoing program performance.

Redesign, Marketing & Promotion

inTEAM can assist with analyzing current metrics to identify potential areas for improvement in program engagement and testing various innovations in marketing and communications to increase participation.  Examples might include:  Made to Order sandwiches, introducing new products and brands, integration with mobile app communications, student ratings, establishing loyalty programs, and line queueing strategies.

Administrative & Procurement Reviews

inTEAM provides professional services to conduct all aspects of Administrative and Procurement Reviews. The use of our Administrative Review and Administrative Review Menu Planning Supplement (ARMPS) software modules make us much better prepared for on-site visits and provides the ability to consolidate one concise set of corrective actions.  We will ensure that SFAs follow regulations, assess SFA compliance, provide technical assistance to the SFA as needed, establish findings, and provide required corrective action, as applicable.

inTEAM performs “mock reviews” for School Districts with options including off-site mock reviews and a combination of on-site and off-site efforts where inTEAM plays the role of the State Agency while measuring across a broad range of compliance requirements. A final report including recommendations to avoid fiscal action during the actual review is provided.

inTEAM’s unique value add to the overall administration of compliance is our integrated eLearning platform to help staff prepare for Administrative Reviews and to assign Corrective Action as required for adverse findings.  In short, we understand the entire equation.

GDSN Integration

The Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) integrates industry standard supply chain technology with existing K-12 food service processes to streamline record keeping and improve tracking, accountability, and the ability to measure success. inTEAM consultants are available to assist you in participating in this initiative by:

  • Working with your internal staff to obtain the software and performing initial training.
  • Obtaining and matching GTINs for current contracted items used in Menu Plans and Recipes. This may include requesting Suppliers to publish GTIN Attributes to the N2F data pool.
  • Setting up local protocols required to upload and download approved data exchanges to and from a centralized data server to improve and better manage the supply chain.
  • Providing technical and operational support as needed.
